A young man wouldn't have seen his future spread out before him and pulled the rug out from under it all if he had maybe been born two Obama terms later in time. The healthcare industry failed him completely. He had a disease known to be caused by a medication sold by a huge corporation that he took way back in high school.

With no health insurance, except that which was provided by the state, and no income, except that which was provided by Disability Insurance, he slipped through the cracks made great and wide by bureaucracy. Any doctors in his town, on the rare chance that they accepted said insurance, were nearly impossible to get short notice appointments with when his symptoms were life threatening.

So off to the E.R. he would have to go. Waiting for sometimes six or eight hours in agony, he would be treated for his immediate symptoms only when what he really needed was a series of treatments and some research into what was causing him to slowly die.

You don't get to see the top specialists when your disease is complicated and there isn't someone with lots of money to pay them. You don't get better, you just die.

What about the medication company, you might ask. Well, their pockets are very deep but unfortunately you need to outlive your disease to benefit from a multi-year long battle in the courts. What are the chances?
