Light Rain, 57 Degrees

I was a scared kid. I wasted so many hours lying in bed, heart beating fast, imagining horrible scenarios to befall me. Bad dreams could make me feel sick for days, not able to shake that dread-stress feeling of being hunted down.

Well into my teens I couldn't really watch scary movies. The characters would stick around in me, inventing new and even more terrifying ways to keep me up, night after night. I grew out of most of it, finally, I think around the time I started to write pulp fiction. Scary stories and violent stories, to keep the wolves at bay.

So it's true, what they say, about writing as purging. Get rid of all of that nonsense. Write right now.
